Glass101: Blow Your Ornament Ball (BYOB) or suncatcher- learn the basics of glassblowing in a supportive and fun environment. We will cover safety and color application as well as the techniques to produce a suncatcher or ornament. A wide color palette is available and a number of samples are available to help jump start deciding which one to make. Each ornament or suncatcher takes about 15 minutes per piece to make. Please call or email to set up a time to make your pieces. Discounts are available when you bring a friend who also makes a piece. $27.00 per person, bring a friend and make each ornament for $24.00. Students receive the same discount without having to bring a friend (show valid ID). All tools, materials and supplies included.
The Glass Paperweight: this hour-long class takes you through the steps necessary in the making of your own paperweight. More hands-on than the ornament/suncatcher class, you will be able to select colors and other effects in the making of a first paperweight as well as a variety of basic shapes. Safety, color application, and basic techniques will be covered. We will work in a team manner in the making of your work. All tools, materials and supplies are included. Cost: $75.00. Bring a friend and you each make one for $70.00. Student discount applies with valid ID.
The Daylong Intensive: This class is a great way to get familiar with glass in a welcoming, safe, and fun environment. This class will be one of the most hands-on classes and will cover gathering out of the furnace, proper marvering and shaping techniques as well as color application, and safety. Students will make a paperweight, a flower, and several ornament/suncatchers at the very least, but will likely make more based on time available and how each member of the class progresses through the forms that will be covered. This class is a great way to immerse yourself in glassmaking and to make objects of great beauty. There will be discussions on the history of glass as well as chemistry as we work. Begins at 10:00 am and goes until 5:00 pm and is currently available on weekends only. Bring a bag lunch or you can get something quick at Mikies 7th restaurant or at Super Value Mart just around the corner from the studio. Cost is $140.00 per person. Bring a friend and you both get the class for $125.00 each. Discounts for students with valid ID.
The Weekend Intensive: This is our best class for the person wanting immersion in glassmaking. In this class all of the same forms in the day-long intensive will be covered in addition to vessels such as bowls and cylinders. This class is similar to our daylong class but includes more time making work per person.
This weekend class begins at 10:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Bring a bag lunch or lunch is available on Saturdays at Mickies 7th near the studio or at Super Value Mart also near the studio. Cost for this class is $250.00. Bring a friend and you both get the class for $220.00. Discounts for students apply with valid ID.
Studio Rental: for those with the experience the studio is available for rent with rates starting at $18.00 an hour with a three hour minimum.
